Hello, and welcome to Andy's Photos. I'm Andrew Gray — a semi-retired science teacher, lifelong nature lover, and passionate photographer with a particular fascination for the night sky.

From the Classroom to the Camera

After many years teaching science, I found that my curiosity about the world didn't retire when I did. If anything, it deepened. Photography became my way of continuing to explore, observe, and share the wonders I encounter — whether that's the Milky Way arching over a dark hillside, the first light breaking over a distant coastline, or the quiet drama of wildlife in its natural habitat.

Life on the Water

Some of my favourite images have been captured during cruise ship voyages, primarily with Fred Olsen. There's something magical about waking up in a new port, camera in hand, with a whole day of discovery ahead. From the fjords of Norway to the volcanic landscapes of the Azores, these journeys have taken me across three continents and given me a perspective on our world that I treasure deeply.

Closer to home, I'm just as happy exploring the local countryside — searching for the perfect dark sky spot or waiting patiently for the right moment of golden light.

A Passion for the Night Sky

As a science teacher, the cosmos always held a special place in my heart. Astrophotography lets me combine that scientific wonder with the art of photography. There's nothing quite like the patience and reward of capturing a star-filled sky — it reminds me just how extraordinary our universe is.
